Donny Carroll
Donny Carroll, a cyclist, took part in the Tour de France. From a young age, he possessed an inherent drive for competition and a natural inclination to compete.
"When I was 14 years old, I was a slightly overweight, shorter kid. However, I managed to surpass their impressive times and gained valuable experience on that challenging hill. Our inaugural major race was the Tour of Americas in Venezuela, where I had the incredible opportunity to meet my idol, Steven Roche. Steven, who had triumphed in the Tour De France, Tour of Italy, and the World Championship, inspired me greatly.
Approaching him and introducing myself was an act devoid of any fear, and to my astonishment, he asked if I would be interested in joining the amateur team in Northern France. He even mentioned the potential to turn professional with his team the following year. I eagerly accepted the offer and, at the age of 19, found myself on an airplane just one week later.
Steven had warned me about the challenges I would face in the North of France. The region is known for its harsh weather conditions, including strong winds and freezing temperatures. There are only a few months of sunshine throughout the year. Surviving in such conditions would be a testament to my capabilities, and if I could manage it, Steven believed I had what it takes to become a professional cyclist." - he said.Â
At the age of 52, Donny continues to have a deep passion for cycling. He now finds joy in the friendly ambiance of Donny's café, where he and his wife work together to serve the local community. After a long day, they return home, take some time to relax, and indulge in their favorite books while using the Air Relax leg recovery system.
